Office Organization: 5 Must-Know Tips for Decluttering Your Office

Are you feeling like your office has been a cluttered mess lately? Read these fice office organization tips to learn how to declutter your office.

Nobel Prize winner, Albert Einstein, was famously messy. “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

It might work for some, but it is not easy for most of us. We waste so much time just looking for our keys, a pen and then we get frustrated.

Office organization is more than just tidying up. It gives our workspace a flow and allows us to focus on work, not the mess. This can be a real problem for those of us who work from home.

Here are some great tips for getting rid of your clutter.

Office Organization Made Easy

Getting rid of too much stuff or just organizing the stuff you do have will take some willpower. If you have a lot of product in your office, you likely need more office space.

1. Be Brutal

The best way to declutter is from the bare bones of it. Remove everything and start over. Get everything out in the open so you can actually see what you have. Then you can start sorting it all.

Make piles of things you must keep, a pile for maybe need and then a pile for the recycling, garbage or donations. You need cut deep. Don’t personalize anything.

2. Make Spaces for Similar Items

Keep all your files together in a filing cabinet or drawer. Pens, pencils, highlighters and the like all together and close at hand. If you buy these items in bulk, only keep out enough to use and leave the rest in storage.

3. Storage Off-site

If you do work at home or your office has limited space, you need to consider keeping them in storage. If you use your office to display all your football or bowling trophies, take a picture, keep one and send the rest to storage.

Chances are, your home doesn’t have space for them or your partner doesn’t want to see them, either. Contact Advance Moves, they will take care of all your cherished items on their way to their new home.

4. Go Up

To make space to work, you have to put things somewhere. Get filing cabinets, shelving or storage containers for the items you don’t use every day. Books, electronics, or your product can be close at hand but not underfoot.

5. Learn to Let Go

You don’t need to keep every single item that comes across your desk. File what you can electronically and discard the rest. If they are important documents or items, find safe places for them.

Breathe Easy

The truth is, you feel better when you can see everything in its place. A clear desktop is a clean mind. You need to be tough on yourself and get those documents all sorted out.

If you have trouble letting go of your things, you can always consult a professional for office organization. They are trained and experiences and are not personally attached to your stuff like you are.

Speaking of important documents, do you have yours in order? Keep reading to find out.
