How You Can Choose the Best Shirt Colours for Your Custom-Made Suit

If you have decided to order your very own bespoke or custom-made suit, it pays to know what details to choose, from the fabric and materials to the details such as the cuffs, lapels and collars, buttons, vents, and so on. But having your custom-made or bespoke suit entails choosing a good quality shirt as well.

And of course, you can’t just have one shirt – you need to have a few shirts in different colours so you can wear your suit on different occasions. Mind you, the shirt you choose to wear with your bespoke suit matters a lot, because it is often the first thing people will notice as you walk towards them wearing your suit, more than the quality of your suit or its texture or pattern. Most dress shirts don’t come in a solid colour, but they will usually have a single colour that dominates, so people can see this from a distance. But how can you then choose the best shirt colours for your custom-made suit? Let’s find out.

  • White

White is a quintessential colour for dress shirts, and for good reason. It is a neutral colour which goes with everything, and it is accepted at any event or occasion. But the cut and the fabric’s quality can make a big difference, so choose this wisely. A few white dress shirts are essential for any men’s wardrobe.

  • Light grey

Another excellent choice for a dress shirt colour is light grey, and this goes well if you want a more muted, sombre look. It’s also ideal if you aren’t keen on the stark, bright contrast of a white shirt with a dark-coloured bespoke suit. Light grey is a restrained and subtle colour, but make sure you choose your pocket square and tie carefully because it isn’t a colour that goes well with ties or pocket squares that are too bright or bold, either.

  • Light blue

Light blue is another classic choice, and many men will already have a light blue shirt in their wardrobe. It’s a more relaxed colour compared to white, but when you are choosing a light blue shirt for your suit, take note of the shirt’s weave because it can result in a darker blue or lighter blue shirt. Of course, light blue isn’t as easy to mix and match as a white shirt, but you can pull it off as long as you choose other neutral, subtle colours as well.

  • Pink

Pink has become quite popular in recent years, especially with the millennial and generation X and Y crowd, but you may already know that men in Europe have been wearing pink shirts for ages. If you are considering a pink dress shirt, however, it’s best to go with pastel and light shades; stay away from hot pink colours – unless, that is, you really want to make a bold statement.

  • Pastel colours

Lastly, we go on to pastel colours. Pastels have always been popular as dress shirt colours, so you can’t really go wrong with most pastel colours such as blue, green, yellow, and so on. The best time to wear pastels would be during the summer season, however, and you can then pair it with a summery and light-coloured suit.
