Overcoming Hyperpigmentation: Understanding the Causes

September 3, 2021 by Jarred

Bikini line hyperpigmentation is such a sore spot for many and can cause frustration and embarrassment. Luckily, there are many ways you could improve the skin tone of your bikini line. These include creams, bleaches and other bikini line whitening products that could balance your skin color and texture. But do you know why this happens? Here are the most common reasons hyperpigmentation occurs, plus how you can prevent it in the future.

Shaving

Shaving is one of the primary reasons people suffer from hyperpigmentation. Ingrown hairs and hyperpigmentation are the two major bikini-line problems, and they are both related to shaving as a method of hair removal. This is because hair removal, particularly shaving, causes skin irritation.

Hair was meant to grow in all areas of your body. Therefore, regardless of the method used, hair removal causes shock and trauma to the skin. As a response, the body inflates the hair follicles and creates a bubble to protect the hair resulting in ingrown hairs. Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin tries to recover from the inflation, irritation, redness, and swelling, all symptoms of hair removal. To minimize the effects of shaving, stop doing it at all. If you cannot, always use shaving oil. Never shave your skin dry, and ensure always to use a barrier when shaving.

Chafing

This is the second most common cause of hyperpigmentation in your bikini area. It is characterized by extended dark skin from the bikini area down to the thighs. Chafing happens due to extreme friction when your inner thighs rub against one another. The friction causes skin damage, and in an attempt to heal, dark spots appear, eventually causing a blanket of darker inner thighs than the rest of your body.

While most people believe that chafing is only for overweight people, it can occur to anyone regardless of their size and weight. This is because whether chafing happens to you or not is determined by the shape of your thighs. The more moisture or sweat you have in your thighs or bikini area, the more prone you are to chafing. While there are many treatment options for chafing, you can prevent it by applying a body balm or wearing clothes made of natural breathable fibers, especially when working out. Also, squats help tone your inner thighs, thus minimizing friction.

Hormonal Imbalance

This type of hyperpigmentation is popularly referred to as chloasma or melasma. It is prevalent in women as it is majorly influenced by female sex hormones progesterone and estrogen. These hormones stimulate the overproduction of melanin pigmentation, especially when the skin is exposed to the sun. Hormonal imbalance led hyperpigmentation is common in pregnant and breastfeeding women and affects almost all areas of your body and not just the bikini line. If you suspect that your hyperpigmentation results from hormonal imbalance, consult with a physician for proper treatment.

The solution in skin lightening products

The easiest and fastest solution to hyperpigmentation is through the use of lightening products. Since they are gentle and non-invasive, they are considered the safest for your sensitive areas. Additionally, these creams have no side effects hence no downtime.

Depending on the product components, you can lighten, lift, and rejuvenate your bikini line helping you feel more confident about your body. Additionally, usage of these products enhances sexual intimacy since you look and feel better.

How does the Treatment Work?

Start with deep purification of the skin through a process such as exfoliation. This can be done for a few days or weeks before you start using the product. You can then apply the topical solution on all the affected areas in a generous amount or as prescribed. The whitening mixture contains safe lightening products such as kojic acid and glutathione, which could be applied in even more sensitive areas, such as the underamrs and the groin area. This not only lightens but also eliminates ugly blemishes. The treatment requires at least 30 minutes per day. For best results, the product should be used daily or as prescribed.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the solution to your hyperpigmentation woes should be dealt with in two ways to get rid of the problem and maintain the results. The first one is by avoiding anything that will cause irritation, inflammation, or any other form of discomfort to the body. The second one is by using products that lighten and reduce inflammation and soothe your skin.

Hyperpigmentation is a reality, and it occurs to almost everyone. However, it does not have to be permanent, costing you your self-confidence. Instead, engage in a proper skincare routine and maintain long-term results.
